The classic gentlemen's English brogue is an essential item for any Autumn wardrobe and since returning from a Summer break we've been looking to find the best examples from our favourite Northampton shoe brands.
Trickers, Church and Loake brogues
The obvious place to start is Trickers; their country shoe collection includes the timeless Bourton derby brogue and the quintessential Stow country brogue boot. Both are available for around 60% of their retail price at the Trickers factory shop in the centre of Northampton town.
Church shoes also stock a range of brogues in their factory shop although we were looking for something less formal and so headed over to Gilders country sports shop along the Wellingborough Road, around half a mile from the town centre. Gilders stock a good range of Loake country brogue shoes and boots although you will be paying the full retail price for this classic Northampton shoe.
Barkers Country collection brogues
So, with the town centre brogue search exhausted, we headed out to Earls Barton to visit the Barkers shoe factory shop which has the most extensive selection of imperfects and end of range English shoes.
After exploring the Creative and Country collections, we settled on the Bailey classic wingtip derby brogue in cedar calf with the modern twist of contrast laces. An imperfect with no visible imperfections and an absolute bargain at £150 for a pair of beautifully crafted English shoes that will last a lifetime.
Northampton brogue search over. Mission accomplished.
